By successfully swimming the Golden Gate Miss Hazel Lagonour, aged 19, a university of  California co-ed, won the distinction of being the first woman to accomplish the perilous feat. In a battle with one of the roughest tides of the day, it took her one hour and -twenty-eight minutes to make the swim.
